iBook G4s (http://www.apple.com/ibook) start at $1100 and eMacs (http://www.apple.com/emac) at $800. The eMac is a nice entry-level machine and a decent amount of bang for your buck, but you can't beat being able to haul something around with you if the mood strikes you.
PowerMax (http://www.powermax.com/) and Small Dog (http://www.smalldog.com/) have nice deals on refurbished and used systems, or you could even get an Apple Loan (http://www.apple.com/financing/) and pay a low, low monthly fee on your new Mac.
If you ever do seriously look into getting one, ask me or Greck and we'll advise you as best we can as to the best way to blow your money.
