The low end Macs are a bit less expensive than I thought, but still somewhat more than a PC replacement for Sluggo, since I could keep the Slug's monitor, and probably the CD writer and maybe the hard drive -- (though that is over two years old now, I've never filled more than 15% of it. It seems to be in good shape.)
I'm accustomed to my 17 inch monitor, so if I bought a Mac, I'd probably choose a desktop. (I never go anywhere that I'd need a computer, anyway.) I do like to fondle look at stuff before I buy it, though, and the nearest Apple dealer is 80 miles away in Sacramento. Curse living in a backwater! And being without proper transportation! Still, there's always a chance I could rope a nephew into taking me there, with the right combination of bribes and threats.
