Hot. Hot enough to fry an egg on the stove. The sidewalk? Merely uncomfortable for bare feet. But hot. To be perfectly honest, it probably got into the mid seventies, but I'm not used to that anymore. Diaphanous clouds draped the northern sky, giving the day a decidedly tropical feel. I almost made iced tea, but decided that such an act would be incredibly tacky when the equinox has not yet arrived. Anyway, I'm hoping that this heat is a mere fluke, and does not predict a torrid spring. I like spring to be mild, with lots of cool days. I can tolerate a heat wave in June, but if April turns hot, I'll be very annoyed.

My brain has been a bit fuzzy today, because the warmth brought with it a great deal of noise to disturb my sleep. It seems as though everyone took advantage of the weather to use their power mowers and their band saws (making new patio furniture?) and the kids up the street came out to play with their muffler-free go-karts, which can rattle windows from a distance of three blocks. Instead of dreams, I had fantasies about seeing the little buggers wrap their noxious trainer vehicles around utility poles. Interrupted sleep makes me grumpy! At least tomorrow is Monday, and everyone goes back to school or work, and I get to have the day to myself. That will put me in a better mood, even if it turns out to be hot again. Right now, I'm going outdoors to sit in the cool darkness, and think about how nice the quiet is.
