I Had To Make Coffee!
Aug. 26th, 2004 09:48 pmSirens woke me. Lots of sirens. I expected to open the window and see the whole town blazing away, but there was no sign of fire anywhere. I still don't know what it was all about, but I think that every emergency vehicle in town went up into the mountains and never came back. And here I am, punchy from insufficient sleep. Nevertheless, it was a lovely late-summery day, the warm air softened by sweet breezes, the sky decorated with small puffs of cloud, the birds happily flying through the sun-sparkled spray of lawn sprinklers. The days are better now that they don't drag on quite so long. The nights are better now that there are more hours of moonlight and starlight. We are less than a month from that day of perfect balance, the Equinox. Apples are ripening in the orchards, and soon the crisp fruit of crisp days will be harvested. Mmmm, pie!
