Meteors

Recently I have seen several meteors. I don't think there is one of those regularly scheduled showers going on; it has been dumb luck. I go out for a sniff of the night air, look up, and there is that streak of light making a brief mark across the enduring constellations. Perhaps I should be making wishes.

The meteors you have seen in the past couple of days are from the Earth passing through the tail of a small comet. The comet isn't near now, but rather the Earth's orbit is crossing a zone where the comet passed through previously.

However, in a couple of days, we will be experiencing the annual Orionid meteor shower. It too is the result of comet, but a famous one - Halley's.

Ah, if only I could arrange for Sluggo to be a meteor. :D

I usually get to see the summer meteor showers here, but seldom see the Orionid because late October nights are almost always overcast, and often rainy. It has been clear so far this year, but rain is predicted for early next week.
