I Should Have Called This Journal "Local Weather Report."

Today truly feels like fall: crisp air and toasty sun. It is a perfect day to sit and watch the crows swoop and glide and gather in the tops of the pine trees, calling to one another in their harsh but oddly comic crow language. The apples have been harvested from the orchard, and the thinning foliage of the oaks reveals new and more intricate patterns of sky. The leaves of the dogwoods continue to darken to deeper shades of red, in pleasing contrast to the brightness of the clusters of berries which now adorn them. The chamade of acorns continues to summon the squirrels, and the rain, for the moment, remains only a promise for the days yet to come. Now, I will go and watch the last yellow rays of sun touch the crow-filled tops of the trees.

Whats the difference between a crow and a raven?

We have lots of crows here. They live in the trees and on the poles around our complex. Every morning the parrots, who live west of here at the golf course, fly east to spend the daylight hours somewhere in Tustin. As they pass over our area the crows become agitated. On the afternoon flight back to their roosting place on the western golf course the parrots often stop to pick fruit and otherwise harass the crows who appear cranky and serious in their black tuxedos. The parrots seem like colorfully dressed yodeling clowns. Nobody ever gets hurt but they all make a lot of noise and it's very entertaining.

The raven is a species of crow, as is the magpie, and also the rook. They are also closely related to the jay.

Pastorals is good.
I think that I might dig up some of the stuff I wrote when I was living in Los Angeles and post it, just to give a bit of non-bucolic edge to the journal. Either that, or dredge up some nice urban grit from my memory; I've got plenty of it.
