Distracted

I'm sorting photographs, trying to decided which are worth uploading to various sites, and for which sites each would be most fit. Only part of my collection is digitized, and the scans of most of those which have been aren't very good. Still, I've found a couple of dozen which I might post in various places. I've created an account at Urban Planet, which has some interesting posts and discussion boards, but doesn't provide its own image hosting. Then there's OurMedia, which provides unlimited storage for original and public domain image, text, audio and video files on the servers of The Internet Archive, but is still rather difficult to use, being still in Alpha. I also have a few that might be worth posting at citynoise.org. But here I am thinking about uploading still more pictures and I haven't even gotten around to restoring the dead image links in my old LJ posts. All that stuff that was in my old PictureTrail account has to be uploaded to Scrapbook, and then the various posts in which they belong hunted down and their HTML changed. Daunting.

Spring was back today, flaunting puffy white clouds and bright sunshine. The new computer's location gives me a better view of the outdoors than did Sluggo's desk, so I am constantly distracted by the passing day. Pages sit unread while I watch woodpeckers drill in the utility pole, or enjoy the play of light on the growing leaves, or simply watch the clouds drift. If I;m going to get anything done at all while the afternoons are so nice, I think I'll have to start closing the drapes.

You should check out Flickr.com. They have free accounts which let you upload 10 meg a month, and I might be able to provide an upgrade to a paid account for free if you need it, which can take 1 gig a month.

I've got 100MB of storage space here at LJ which I've barely touched yet. I'm pretty sure that Brad said we could hotlink to other sites from LJ Scrapbook, so that would take care of the stuff I want to post at Urban Planet. The other sites provide image hosting themselves. It's more a matter of finding the time to get it done rather than finding storage space. Uploading over dial-up takes forever.

I hear that. I have dialup at home, so I usually smuggle stuff I want to upload to work on a USB memory stick. I'm looking at going over to ADSL soon though.
