Here it is New Year's Eve Eve already and I haven't given a minute's thought to what my New Year resolutions will be. Oh, wait. I don't make New Year resolutions. If I did make them, then this year I'd be tempted to resolve to get a job picking through trash in San Francisco. I wouldn't be one of the artists with a grant, but just a regular employee of the dump, rooting through all the stuff that came in. I'm aware that there's some irony in my coveting a job rooting through the trash other people have discarded when I have so much of my own that could use sorting out, and doubtless much that deserves discarding. But then I have a fairly good idea of what I'll find when I sort through my stuff, while the dump's trove would be full of surprises. That, as far as I'm concerned, makes it all right.

But there's not much chance of me ending up in San Francisco, so for now I'm just going to root through the junk inside my head.

Ooh, that's enough of that!

Weather. There is bright moonlight tonight and no prospect of clouds anytime soon, so I'm expecting the new year to begin clear and cold. Last year at this time it was rainy and cold. It's nice to have a change.

I was an employee of the town of Dennis, out on old cape cod when Hugo rolled through in 91(?) and as I was a beach employee, and all the beaches were closed, they put me to wiork at the dump. I LOVED that job. Sure, it was minimum, but I was just a college student trying to raise beer and tuition. Anyway, I got to pass all the "recycling" glass through this hopper that smashed it up real good. Eight hours a day, smashing glass. Freaking chathartic, to say the least.

Anyway, Dennis was rather progressive in it's dump facilities. we had a whole cinder-block bunker for stuff that was not wanted, but still too good to toss away. As a dump "employee" I had first dibs. I still have a circa. 1040's fan and a circa. 1920's leather suit-case to attest.

Wouldn't want to do the same in Manilla or Barinquilla though...
