I've heard deer on the street late at might a couple of times recently, but none of the petunias growing in the bed along the driveway have gone missing. The deer munch the roses down the block and the pansies across the street, but they won't touch our petunias. In previous years we've had pansies in that bed, and the blossoms (though not the plants themselves) have always ended up as deer fodder. I have mixed feelings about the survival of the petunias. It's nice to have colorful flowers next to the driveway all the time, instead of just bare plants the deer have browsed, but I'm also sorry that we no longer provide visiting deer with a tasty snack. I feel as though I'm being a bad host to the even-toed ungulates.

Saturdays are weird.
