Unexpected Purchases

I bought a TV and VCR for my mom's room. She was going stir crazy, being bedridden and all. Earlier today she was watching Shane. I remember seeing that movie at the Garfield Theater in Alhambra. I can almost smell the popcorn.

I also had to replace that crappy camera with a new crappy camera. Got a cheap Fuji with limited zoom. It would probably have been wise to save the money and (after Sluggo was upgraded or replaced) bought a better one. But I'm nothing if not impatient.

And, by the way, Frank is mauve again today. At least for me he is. I've decided to believe that it is because he likes me better than he likes anyone else. Heh.

i was named after the movie Shane. it was my grandfather's favourite film.

I think that a lot of guys were named after that movie. You hardly ever meet anyone past their 40s named Shane. Among younger guys, it's not that rare.

I got my name because my sister, who was almost six when I was born, couldn't spell her name, Jeanette. My parents decided that I would be named Joe, (or Jo, if a girl) so I'd have an easy name to spell. It always annoyed me that they had assumed that I would be unable to spell. They were right, though. My spelling has always been pretty bad.

And this odd thought has just crossed my mind (from lack of sleep, most likely;) Suppose your grandfather had had a different favorite film. You might have been named something like, say, The Wild One, or Gone With the Wind, or D.O.A., or, had he been a great Marx Brothers fan, Horse Feathers.

If I had a kid, I would certainly consider naming him Horse Feathers.
