I find that I need at least a few minutes each day when I do no tasks. Just sitting and observing whatever is going on around me is essential. Lately, I haven't had enough of that time, and as a result, my head is emptied out. I don't feel any relationship to the rest of my life. Those times that have no demands are what gives form to the rest of the time. Action is defined by inaction. Or, perhaps, they define each other. At any rate, not enough of the one turns the other to confusion. Was it John Cage who said that music is the silence between sounds? Can't remember. Whoever it was, I think they were right.
