This afternoon I saw both of the feral cats, for the first time in weeks. They both ate some of the food I put out, and they missed seeing one another by a few minutes, so didn't get into a fight. The day was mild, and the gray cat napped by the fence for an hour or so. He was looking a bit shaggy after the all the recent rain. I hope he isn't getting his fur matted.

It was mostly clear again today, the predicted rain having failed to arrive. More rain is predicted tomorrow, though, and it might extend through Wednesday at least. I hope so. It won't be cold enough for snow, but this late in the season (it's really not all that late, but it certainly seems late as it's been so dry this year) we'll take what we can get.

The clear sky was a boon this evening, though, as it allowed me an unobstructed view of the conjunction of Venus and the waxing crescent moon. They were within a few degrees of one another this time, and some wispy clouds nearby added an additional touch of drama to the scene— as if more drama were needed.

I think I got a whiff of spurge laurel a while ago, but I'm not sure.

hooray, both cats are alive and kickin'! my cat might as well be feral, as poorly as he grooms himself. if i didn't attack him with comb and brush every once in a while, ugh.
