Mild Night

Woodpeckers worked on nearby trees all afternoon. I enjoy their drumming as much as I enjoy their chuckling calls, which is quite a bit. The woodpeckers are one of the things I'd miss most if I left this place. Another thing I'd miss would be the moonlight riming the trees, as tonight when the foliage is still and glowing. When wind blows on a moonlit night the trees shimmer as the leaves and needles move, which is even better. It's one of my favorite nocturnal sights. This is one of the best times of year to watch it, too, when the nights are still mild and the oaks still leafy. As September passes, night breezes become more likely. The colder months tend to be the windiest, though. They also lack the noisy cicadas, so perhaps the quiet then is worth the need to bundle up to watch the wind blow the moonlit trees.

Nothing else to say.
