This afternoon I plucked about forty seed-laden dandelion heads from my front lawn, and resisted the temptation to blow on any of them. I hope the neighbors will appreciate my willingness to forgo so great a pleasure for the sake of their lawns.

The day was splendidly moody, as April ought to be, with sun and clouds and rain and moments of gusty wind when it seemed the fresh green leaves of the oaks might all be stripped from the branches. Late afternoon brought a sun shower mixed with bits of hail. I waited to see if there will be a sunset or if the day would merely darken into night as the clouds thickened. It turned out to be the latter. Thunderstorms remain a distinct possibility tonight. So much drama!

But the meteorological drama will be gone by tomorrow, when it will be much warmer and no rain is expected. I will probably have to go shopping. That's a whole different kind of drama.

The dandelions would have been much too delicious a temptation for me. But then, I am a Darwinian gardener, and pretty much anything willing to grow up without yard maintenance is okay in my book.
