There haven't been any black widows around recently, but everywhere I look I see daddy long legs spiders. In fact, it's likely that the bumper crop of daddy long leggers is at least partly responsible for the dearth of black widows, since a daddy long legs will slaughter and eat the black widow whenever the opportunity arises. I usually let a long legger be for that reason. However, I had to dislodge two from their webs this evening because they had colonized my vacuum cleaner, which I needed to use to remove vast amounts of cat fur from the living room drapes.

If a black widow who would otherwise have been devoured now survives due to the displacement of these two spindly but benevolent arachnids, and then bites me and kills me, Portia will have only herself to blame for the lack of feeding she will endure as a result of my untimely demise. Of course, if nobody discovered and removed my corpse before she got really hungry, she'd probably just start eating my dead flesh. Kitties are not sentimental but, gee, I miss my daddy long legs twins.

i didn't know they ate black widows! they're poisonous, i've read, the long-legged guys, but they don't bite humans. handy, that.
