Clean

Even in decay the gardenias scent the night air, but no sufficiently to obscure the smell of dry grass that dominates late summer. It is as pervasive as the sound of cicadas. Watering the lawn helps for a while, but even by night the damp is soon gone and the arid scent again invades the nose. It will take some cold days and some long rains to eradicate it, and that seldom happens in September. I can't smell it in the shower, though. I stay very very clean in September.
