Rumble, Rumble

Two days of rainstorms just came to an end with a spectacular thunderstorm, the first of the year, flinging masses of hail and sending the cats scurrying under the bed. In a matter of minutes, vast swaths of blue sky opened up and the sun turned the remaining clouds brilliant white and the wet streets and rooftops reflected its light. Dozens of birds are now screeching and singing and chattering in all the trees, and the cats have emerged from hiding, blinking their eyes and meowing at the door. I guess I'll get to go for a walk today.

I love Thunderstorms if they aren't too violent and don't damage trees, flowers and shrubs. They can be particularly devastating in Spring here. Right now, as you may have heard, we are in the midst of a very severe drought - No Spring Peepers being one sad result - so I'd be happy to get rain in any way.

This was our first rain in a few weeks. We usually get more this time of year, and I was very happy to see it. There will have to be a couple more snowstorms in the mountains if the streams are to run full, though. And all the plants are blooming a bit early. The weather is a bit odd this year.
