This afternoon I looked out at the very damp world on which bright sunlight had just begun to shine, and I saw tiny flakes of snow whirling down and melting almost as soon as they touched the ground. That was the extent of the snowstorm. Now, an icy wind has cleared the sky to reveal glittering stars, and from up the block I hear the jangling of a neighbor's wind chimes playing mad songs. This will be a cold night. I'm glad my cats are napping warmly indoors.
