The rain has been quite impressive tonight. There have been periodic downpours since late afternoon Tuesday, with drizzling between, and I'm quite sure we're going to get considerably more than the two inches that were predicted to be the maximum. So far the roof repairs seem to be holding up, except the one around the skylight on the back porch. That's still leaking. If that leak were about a foot north of where it is, it would drip into the sink. As it is, it drips on the sink board, and the sink board has no slope to it, so the water just pools there. Sometimes the feral cats hop onto the sink board. If they do it tonight, they're in for an unpleasant surprise.

The head yanking went well, but I'm sure I'll screw up my neck again within just a few days. I fell asleep on the couch again (and thus no update last night) and my head was crunched up against the arm rest for a couple of hours. That's never good.

Now I'm going to go out and sit in the garage with the door open and listen to the rain for a while. It's not as terribly cold as I'd expected it to be, or as it usually is during a big rainstorm, so this rare opportunity must be grasped.

Down the Cape, there was this old guy who used to sit in his garage, right on route 6A in Yarmouth, all day, every day. Anybody who was a local used to honk and wave and he'd wave back. And by every day I mean it. Rain or shine. He was a fixture.

Then I went to sea, and he probably passed away sometime in the last decade. I don't get down the cape much anymore, but when I visited last summer, my folks told me the house had been sold some years back.

And even though I don't get down the cape much any more, when I do, I still honk and wave at the house.

I wonder how many other people do the same thing.

I wonder if the new owners get confused when we do. Even if they aren't sitting in the garage.

I love listening to the rain. When I had the guy make our back patio, I had him put a roof over it so I could sit out there and listen to the rain, provided it wasn't too cold.
