I just realized that in about 15 hours it shall have been 90 years since that iceberg was damaged by Titanic. I don't recall how long it has been since Kate Winslet hauled her arse to the Shrine Auditorium to be left out of the inexplicable Oscar sweep by the movie (which shall remain nameless) based on the event. I also don't know how long it shall be before someone strangles a DJ for playing that song once to often. Way to late, in my opinion.

But I recall being about twelve years old and buying a used paperback copy of Walter Lord's book, A Night to Remember, and being fascinated by the disaster. But then, at that age, I was fascinated by just about any disaster. Still, the sinking of Titanic became my favorite disaster, with the single exception of the San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906. That event began on April 18th, so I get to post something about it again on Thursday. Don't let me forget.

We had a fire like unto the San Francisco one, and have an "underground Seattle" because of it, where the city was rebuilt on top of the ruins. Although, now that I think of it, ours probably wasn't mearly as big or destructive as that one.

I think I read that book, or one similar. It's my favourite disaster too, however macabre those words sound. All fascinating and stuff. :)
