It was raining when I went to sleep about three o'clock in the morning, and was still raining when I woke up about nine o'clock. Then it rained pretty steadily until about four o'clock this afternoon. If it rained the whole time I was asleep, we must have gotten about twenty hours of it altogether. Weather Underground says we got .38 inches, but there must have been more. They might be measuring at a lower altitude. My guess would be that we had more than an inch. It will be interesting to see if it makes the back lawn any greener. I think that the front lawn is already too far gone for any amount of water to coax it back from its toasty summer brown shade.

I managed to get to the chiropractor without being soaked, and I even stopped off at the market to get a couple of potatoes, having discovered that the two I had in the bin were sprouting roots. I'm thinking about baking one of them. This might be the last chance I get for several months to use the oven without overheating the house. I wish I'd remembered to pick up some sour cream, though. Baked potatoes are always better with sour cream, but I guess I'll make do with butter.

84 degrees predicted for tomorrow. That's quite a leap from today's pleasant 68. It probably won't take long for the sun to dry out the ground again. I probably shouldn't expect much greening even for the back lawn. It sure was nice to see summer get its arse kicked, though, even if only for a couple of days.
