Perseid meteor shower tonight. It's already reaching its peak in the east, and will begin on the west coast in half an hour or so. I had totally forgotten about it, but the Internets just reminded me (thanks, Internets.) I'm not sure how long I'll be able to stay awake for it, as I didn't get much of a nap today.

It's going to be very nice outdoors, though, despite the fact that the noisy small crickets have begun to chirp (I like the big crickets but the small ones are screechy and obnoxious.) I do hope the neighbors all keep their porch lights off. The darker it is outside the better, and nearby lights can interfere with the view much more than distant ones because they prevent your eyes from fully adjusting. There is only a small, waning crescent moon tonight, so this is the best opportunity to see the Perseids we've had in years.

Now I'm going to fix a snack before the show starts. If the meteors turn out to be a dud, at least I'll have the snack.
