At a certain age, when one is no longer obligated by the schedules of school or commerce, every day is like Sunday. I suppose that's not so for those who go to church, which differentiates even the Sunday's of retirement from other days, so for them perhaps every day but Sunday comes to be like Saturday. But I don't go to church, or much of anywhere else, so for me every day might as well be Sunday. Back when I had television, Sunday was the day I got to watch English people murder one another on PBS, but now I have no television, so Sunday isn't differentiated by anything in particular.

All this is by way of saying that March 20 was like all my other days these days, and there is really nothing special to say about it. I woke fairly late, ate cookies instead of a donut, the last of which is gone, and then sat for a while in the back yard and heard the mockingbird sing for a bit. It was quite mild out, which I found pleasant enough despite the fact that it was the result of not having any winter to speak of this year, so that we are going to be short of water until next winter, or even longer if we don't get lucky then. Some parts of the state are already putting restrictions on domestic use of the precious liquid, but I haven't gotten any instructions about conserving yet, though I expect them soon enough.

Today will be the first day of the heat wave, with the high expected to reach 80. At the moment, the furnace is going and I still feel a bit chilly, but I suppose I'll actually have the windows open for a while in the afternoon and gather enough heat that I won't need the furnace Monday night. Five days of this are due, the rest of them even hotter than today will be, like a mini-summer for the mini-metropolis. It's weird, but then everything is weird these days. I should be used to it by now, especially since I'm pretty weird myself. And the warm weather means I will save a couple of bucks off my next utility bill... unless it gets so hot I have to use the air conditioner.

Chances are I can get to sleep a bit earlier tonight than I did last night, and maybe get up a bit earlier than I did Sunday. That won't make a significant difference of course, since Monday will still be like Sunday. Gee, I miss watching English people murder one another.
