Reset Forty, Day Sixteen
Apr. 24th, 2022 05:22 amThe drained brain woke up Saturday afternoon and promptly began doing nothing of any importance. While it nattered in the background I ate something, then looked at Internet, then ate more, then looked at Internet more, then went outside and listened to the mockingbird, who made more sense than the brain, then went back indoors for more Internet and eating. It didn't get very hot, but there was still enough warmth to permit the airing of the apartment, though that allowed some pollen to enter and I sneezed quite a bit. For some reason I began craving pie, and lamented its absence. I will think about acquiring some when I finally get around to arranging some grocery shopping on my behalf.
On the whole, it was a successful day, in that I survived it and don't feel any worse than I did Friday. The next two days will bring a mini-heatwave, but the rest of the week should be about normal for the season. There's very little chance of more rain anytime soon. One pleasant surprise Saturday was the utility bill, which I knew would be zero dollars this month, thanks to California's climate credit program, but the surprise was that I also still have a credit of $52.00, so if the weather remains mild I likely won't have a bill to pay next month either, and there could even be a bit left over to shave a few bucks from June's bill. I could buy pie with my savings! Nice.
Sunday Verse
by Gilbert Sorrentino
The face in the quiet night.
Absolute darkness, someone is
fishing downstream.
Words to be forgotten,
late, old stupid clothes, styles
that no longer exist.
Life. Movement of air, zephyrs,
the hit of bass or pickerel, somehow
love in it, the middle of it.
I ask you where was it, the space,
the air displaced? Gone on air?
Men dead from cannon fire and
grenades, children born, strange
lives beginning to find shape, where
is that sustenance, that past location.
