Reset Forty, Day Forty-Two
May. 20th, 2022 03:59 amA spam phone call sufficiently damaged my sleep Thursday a morning that I was forced to rise far too early. This led to an early evening collapse, and I was asleep again before sunset. Dinner (another sandwich) had to wait until after the nap, and happened around midnight. Although Thursday wasn't as hot as Wednesday, the insulation is still packed with Wednesday's heat, so the apartment was quite uncomfortably warm. Outdoors was miserably hot, and going out there probably contributed to the evening sleepiness. But since the nap it has cooled of outside, and it is now more pleasant out there than in here, even though I have windows open and the fan on.
It was breezy all day, and tonight the wind has grown robust. I'm actually enjoying the wind, as long as I don't think about how it greatly increases the risk of wildfires. The air is still smelling fresh, though, and the only significant new fire reported today was in Kern County, hundreds of miles south of here. The red flag warning continues through today, so we could still get one. So far we've been lucky. But with a whole dry summer and (probably dry) autumn ahead, there's plenty of time for our luck to run out.
I'm still not dealing with the shit I need to deal with, and I doubt I'll get around to it today, so the can is effectively likely to be kicked into next week. I ought to do some shopping next week, too, and I'm certainly not looking forward to that, even with online ordering. I find online shopping as tedious, though not as physically exhausting, as actual shopping. I'm a terrible consumer. If everyone was like me, the economy would surely collapse. Google is probably keeping track of how little I buy, and some day the armed minions of Capitalism will probably come knocking on my door and I'll be hauled off to the mall and be forced to borrow and spend something. Actually I could use one of those lightweight magnifiers for reading, so it wouldn't be entirely bad. I'll probably never get one short of that sort of event. Downright un-American of me!
It's possible that I'll be going back to sleep fairly soon, but I should have snack first. I've got some butter out softening, and might toast an English muffin. Maybe make some cold chocolate milk with a shot of brandy in it, since it's too warm for cocoa. It's never too hot for brandy.
