Fail!

Only brief sprinkles of rain have fallen so far, all in the last hour. The day was splendidly grey, with the clouds almost brushing the treetops at times. Excited woodpeckers chattered all afternoon, and after nightfall I heard several flocks of swans and geese passing over. It looks as though the rain will be a bust, though I have some hope we might at least get some fog tonight and I can listen to the condensate drip onto the carpet of dead leaves while the grey tendrils drift among the trees. There will be no moon tonight. By Friday, the clouds will be gone, and by Saturday the temperature is expected to be pushing seventy again. Maybe I'll pick up some ice cream.
