Mild and breezy, the afternoon brought an abundance of chattering birds who shared the air with fluttering leaves. Most of the oak and walnut leaves are down now, and there won't be much more raking to do in the back yard. The gray cat will be pleased. He departs when there's raking going on, and probably resents the interruption of his naps. I know exactly how he feels.

This evening I had to go shopping, and was exposed to zoo-like conditions in the stores. I hope I won't have to go shopping again until December is over. The shopping season fills me with dismay and loathing. We must win the War On Christmas!

Venus and Jupiter are still pretty close together in the evenings, and worth going out to see if the sky is clear enough.

A couple of links:

Historic Aerials has aerial photos (most from the U.S. Department of Agriculture) of some regions of the U.S. (mostly urban areas so far, but also vast swaths of Iowa and most of Massachusetts and New Jersey.) The photos date back as far as 1930. The quality of the earliest photos leaves something to be desired, but they're better than nothing if you want to see how a place has changed over the years.

A 1905 LOLcat has been discovered by icanhascheezburger. Now that I think about it, I believe I have some postcards from the 1950s or so containing LOLbeasts. I'll have to dig them out and see if they are as amusing as I thought they were when I was ten years old.
