Chirp

Crickets chirp slowly when the evenings are cool, and for nights on end I've heard only slow chirps from the crickets. The rhythm might pick up Saturday. Two more days of rain are likely, and then something resembling spring could arrive. I don't think I've ever waited so long for something resembling spring. The warming trend better last this time, or there'll be trouble with the melon crop. I've been waiting a long time for the first casabas to show up, too. Summer never seems possible until I have that first slice of casaba.
