Baked

Not even the feral cats wanted to be out in the heat today. They must have found some shady spot to sleep away the afternoon, as they only turned up for dinner when the sun had gone behind the pines. I haven't had dinner yet myself. It's still too hot to be cooking. Tomorrow will be worse.

There was even a bit of rain this afternoon, but the fat drops steamed off the pavement within seconds of falling. The clouds had withdrawn to the higher mountains by nightfall. I'm listening for the sound of distant thunder.

Fortunately I have lots of fresh fruit, so it doesn't matter that the kitchen would probably burst into flames if I lit so much as a single burner on the stove, or even if I took a really hot bowl from the microwave. There is watermelon, peaches, cherries, bananas, and even an apple I found lurking behind some larger items. I think I'll make a crust for the apple and put it in the attic for half an hour and have pie. Summer's not so bad.

Oh, time to pass out from the heat again.
