That irritating, high-pitched noise I hear is the summer's first cicadas. The high-pitched scream the cicadas are about to her is me reacting to their high-pitched noise. My least favorite noise-making bug is the cicada. Hearing them is like having tinnitus. I could close my windows and block their sound, but then the house would get too stuffy. I could drown them out with music, but this late at night it might disturb the neighbors. I'll just have to live with the racket, I guess. Too bad my feral cats are so young. They could eat the bugs into silence for me.

I wish I could hear the crickets.
