It's very likely that, today, my lawn looked the best it's going to look all year. It is green and lush, and an invigorated storm kept it wet all afternoon so it sparkled in the muted light of a cloudy, translucent sky. Without the rain, the air might have been full of pollen from the blossoms which have emerged on the mulberry tree and from the tall grasses that are sprouting along the driveway. It won't be long before I'll be exploding with spring sneezes again, so there's another reason for me to welcome every day of rain, but it looks as though early spring will be bringing more heat than rain. I only hope it isn't a portent of the sort of summer we'll get.

The woodpeckers have said goodnight. I'll follow their example.

Edit: Did I actually call Wednesday the solstice in the title to this entry? I did! I've changed it to the correct equinox now. Where is my brain hanging out these days? Anybody seen it?
