Boy, tired. Thursday was another long day over quickly, after restless sleep. Then another evening clinging to the days heat far too late into the night. A nocturnal mockingbird, but no crickets. Not long after midnight I turned on the porch light and was about to open the door when I saw a rat scamper across the back porch. I went out and sat in the chair for a while, listening, but the rat who had vanished into the pokeweed patch made no noise. Maybe I should put something out for it to eat. It seems unlikely I'll get another cat, and the fences are so high no felines are likely to get into the yard, so the rat would be safe out there. It might be nice to have some company at night.

The last couple of days I've been putting my phone into airplane mode while I sleep, so I won't have spammers waking me up. What has happened both times is that the battery drains quite far, way more than it does when it's just in its regular mode. I've tried to find out why it's happening, but the Idernet keeps telling me it isn't. Phones are supposed to use less energy in airplane mode. Today I'm going to try using the DND setting instead, to see if that prevents the drain. If it doesn't I guess I'll just have to put up with the spammers. My batteries wear out fast enough as it is.

More heat today of course, and for the whole rest of July, and undoubtedly August and probably September. I'm gradually eating my way through my ice cream supply, but I need to do it earlier in the day, as I suspect that late night sugar intake is contributing to the leg and foot cramps I keep getting, which wake me up. If I eat it earlier in the day there'll be time to exercise it off before I sleep. I hope.

Neck's a bit wonky again, too. And stomach. Need sleep.
