Friday I was able to keep going back to sleep every time something (usually a foot or leg cramp) woke me up, and I finally managed close to eight hours of actual sleep, after deducting about an hour for listening to the brain hamster prattle mindlessly. A couple of forays into the outdoor hellishness happened, but even after the direct sun left the yard it remained unpleasantly hot. Only well after sunset did the outdoors cool down to mere balminess. I'll have to get used to this, as that pattern will continue into next week, and then will take only a brief break before returning for the ret of the month. I won't hold my breath waiting for August to be any better.

Dinner was a microwaved ramen bowl, which was quite adequate for a sultry day. Even better than no-fuss cooking, there is next to no cleanup to do. I've also kept my sugar consumption to a minimum, eating just one donut, and later, three small cookies. There will be one square of chocolate before I go to sleep. The ice cream supply remained untouched all day, tempting though it was.

A post that appeared on my Farcebook page featured a brief appearance of David Hidalgo, of the East Los Angeles group Los Lobos. I occasionally used to hear the band playing parties around my neighborhood when they were just starting out, and was always fond of their unique hybrid of North American and Mexican pop styles. David's appearance on this video reminded me of a song they recorded several decades ago, and I was able to find it on YouTube. It's a cumbia, a pan-latinoamericano rhythm, though the lyric is in English, and the video itself is quite surreal. I can hear decades of Los Angeles in this song. It makes me quite nostalgic.
