Anticipation
Apr. 10th, 2014 09:29 pmToday a butterfly visited the lilac bush. It was a black butterfly with rows of white dots along the top trailing edges of its wings, and yellow and white spots on the undersides of the wings. Its wings were folded when I first saw it and I thought it was a Monarch of some sort, but when it opened its wings I saw that it was quite different. I'm not sure what species it was but it was the first butterfly I've seen this year, so I was happy to have it flitting about the flowers. Later in the afternoon it returned, or another just like it turned up. Lilac nectar must be tasty.
The gladioli in the front yard are flourishing, the sourgrass is blooming, and there will soon be daisies. Despite having bloomed in January, the azaleas are putting out a few small blossoms as well. The gardenia doesn't look ready to bloom, though. That's the one I'm waiting for. A whiff of gardenia really brings a touch of the exotic to a mild spring night.
Only four more days until the eclipse! I'm getting impatient. The weather report is now saying it will be partly cloudy on Monday night. A little bit of cloud I wouldn't mind. The moon always looks better when it has a bit of cloud to illuminate. It would be interesting to see the moon turning some clouds red, too. But I'll be quite annoyed if the clouds are so heavy that I don't get to see the eclipse.
