It has rained pretty steadily today since about eleven o'clock this morning. Because kitty litter was available at a very good one-day sale price I had to go out and get wet, but with a couple of other bargains I saved almost thirty dollars, so it was well worth it. The rain was kind, anyway, and eased up while I was loading groceries into the car, so I only got a little bit wet.
I got wetter this evening when I went out to feed the feral cats and one who had gotten caught in the rain decided to use my pants legs as a towel. When I went back in I had to stand over the heat register for five minutes to get them dry.
Even though I went shopping earlier than usual Safeway was already sold out of couple of things I wanted, and of course I forgot something else that I was going to get, so I'll have to go back out Sunday. At least it will be a short trip, and it's supposed to be sunny and a bit milder by then.
Anyway, the rainy season is off to a decent start, but I have to remember that last autumn was fairly rainy and then the winter turned mostly dry. A repeat of that is the last thing we need, with the reservoirs as low as they are. It's going to take a couple of years of heavy snow pack in the mountains to get them back to something near normal. If we get decent snow this year we shouldn't have to pay as much for vegetables next year as we did this year.
So far I'm not smelling wet newspaper in my room, so the insulation must not have gotten soaked yet. The leak in the roof still hasn't been fixed, and it's the one thing I'm most worried about. I like the rain, as long as I don't have to go out and get wet, but I don't like the idea of getting my head smacked by a slab of soggy wallboard dropping of the ceiling.
