Changing

The storm lasted though the morning, frequent showers drumming on the roof. The clouds began breaking up a while ago and bright sunlight made the water on leaves and grass sparkle, but they have now regrouped and there might be still more rain. I enjoyed the respite when the sky was full of fluffy white clouds with gray undersides. They reminded me of the gray and white feral tom cat who occasionally visits my yard. Sometimes he lies on his back with his white underside up to catch some sun on a cool day.

The lawns were already turning fairly green before this rain arrived, but I expect them to be quite green within a few days. My oak and walnut trees are finally getting some yellow leaves, and they are starting to fall, but at the moment there is more water than dead foliage falling from them, every time a breeze stirs them and sends the trapped rain water flying.

I just stopped to make a cup of tea and while I was in the kitchen the rain started falling again. It's quite blustery at the moment, but that might not last for long. To the southwest I can see a large blue patch of sky over the valley. I don't know if it will get here before sunset or not, but it could. This will be the last early sunset of the year, as the clocks get set back tonight. That will be an easy enough job for me as I only have two clocks that are still working, other than the one in the computer and the one on the cable box, both of which reset themselves automagically. I bet I'll forget to reset the two that need it tomorrow, though. I usually do.

Oh, there's sunlight in my window. I must go out and see if we'll have a sunshower as the storm departs.
