Fell asleep without turning the computer off again last night, then woke up before six o'clock this morning and intended to turn it off then but forgot to do so before going back to sleep, then woke up around half past twelve and have been using it ever since. It has been showing its displeasure at being overworked by being incredibly slow, not realizing that the slower it is the longer it will take me to get around to turning it off. Computers aren't very smart. If I could hook Portia's brain up to the computer the machine would get way smarter, but no smarter than a cat, so probably still not smart enough to recognize what its own best interest was. But maybe it would at least purr, and then I'd be less put out with it.

Needless to say I didn't have dinner for lunch today as I'd planned, so I'm going to have it now before every bit of my energy has drained away. The oven will have to be on for about fifteen minutes, which is too bad on this still-too-hot day, but the air conditioning should take care of the excess heat for a few cents. Since I've got it running anyway I might as well work it just a bit harder.

Unless something special has displaced the show, there should be English people murdering one another on television later tonight, and that will make me feel better. I wonder if the English really know just how much delight Americans take in their quaint and colorful approach to capital crimes? I wonder if Anglican Bibles say "Thou shalt not kill, unless thou dost it in a very entertaining manner?"
