I had to check the calendar to remember what day it was. They are all blending together in one sultry clump. It was Monday. I slept for a few hours, then woke up and couldn't get back to sleep for an hour or so, but then when I was just about to give up I nodded off and slept another three hours, finally getting up about three o'clock. I remembered then that it was trash night, and before I put the wheelie bin out I also remembered that there was still an ear of corn in the vegetable bin. I expected it to be rotted by now, but it turned out to be okay so I built dinner around it.

I also remembered to pick some grapes. They are sweet enough to eat now, but will probably get a bit sweeter. The crop is quite large this year, but many bunches are too high for me to reach. I'll try to get a nephew to take them off my hands, but last year they never got around to it so it might be the same this year. The grape leaves aren't looking so good though. Many are getting yellow blotches, and some are drying out altogether. I don't know if they've got a plant disease of some sort or if they just aren't getting enough water. The state has put restrictions on water use, so I can only water once a week. With all the heat, the plants are probably getting pretty stressed.

It's about time for me to start planning a shopping trip. The grocery ads come out Wednesday, and if there is enough stuff on sale I think I'll go next Monday. If there isn't, then I'll try to put it off for one more week, though I'm running low on a few key items. Fortunately I don't need to go to the bank this month. The less I need to do when I go out the better. The less I need to do when I stay in the better, too. Moving about generates heat, and there's no telling which calorie will be the last I can tolerate.

But we do get a break of sorts today. It's only expected to get up to 95. Tomorrow it will be back up to triple digits through the weekend. Hell.
