Day Out

So shopping got done, and my brain did not seize up or explode. It was a close thing, though. The trip was later than I'd hoped, as I was about three minutes late with my online order and my first choice of pickup times expired before I finished checking out. I had planned on four o'clock, and when it expired I thought I'd get five, but it turned out five was already full so I got stuck with six. What with all the other stuff I had to do I didn't get home until half past that late (but now still bright) hour, and was exhausted.

The store I had to walk through (no pickup available) was not too busy, and I missed only one item I'd intended to buy but couldn't find. The store I ordered from online had to do a couple of substitutions, only one of which I was asked about in advance. That was a large bottle of laundry detergent which was out of stock, so they asked if I'd like a different brand, but I asked if they had the same brand I'd ordered in a different style. It turned out that they gave me two smaller bottles that added up to about the same size as the big one were more expensive than the big one, and also were lavender scented. Yikes. The one I'd ordered was unscented. Now I fear my clothes will smell like an old Victorian lady. It's a distressing thought.

The other substitution was rather costly. I'd ordered a three-pack of 144-count Kleenex (a name brand!) tissues, which were on sale for a price only slightly higher than the regular price of the off-brand I usually buy at Dollar Tree, but the store was out of them and substituted two (apparently the last two in the store) of those fussy little 60-count boxes such as (I believe) genteel folk display in their guest bathrooms. It means that I'll be blowing my nose on tissues that cost about three times as much as those I usually buy. It will make a luxury of my allergies. Bummer.

But what the hell. At least I've got a bunch of stuff I wanted, including some chocolate cupcakes, which will keep me happy for a few days. Well, happyish, anyway. And I probably won't run out of beer, at least for a while. That's success, I suppose. And I survived going out on the hottest day of the year so far. It wasn't fun, but it wasn't fatal (as far as I can tell), and it's over. Hooray.
