Although the Idernet connection has been mostly okay since the recent thirty-some hour downtime, it has occasionally misbehaved. Tuesday it misbehaved quite badly. It only disconnected a couple of times, but was incredibly slow most of the day, almost never loading full pages, and totally incapable of playing videos. After a couple of hours of relentless frustration I gave up on it and did a bit of paper reading and other things, then took a nap that turned into a lengthy sleep. It was early evening and still daylight when I went to sleep, and when I woke up it was dark outside, and I couldn't remember how I had gotten there or where there even was. A few minutes of disorientation were followed by a period of intense sadness, during which I recalled the intense sadness of my early life. I should write about that someday. Or maybe just keep trying to forget it.

But then my foot began to itch, and I had to get up to scratch it since I'm no longer flexible enough to scratch a foot while lying down, and I discovered that it was three o'clock in the morning. I felt like I should have some orange juice and then a donut and some iced tea, but I'm out of donuts and very low on both orange juice and tea, so I just rummaged around until I found a Twix bar and ate that instead. Not a great after-midnight breakfast, but at least it didn't require any cooking. But I was happy to discover that the Idernet was working fairly normally again, and lost myself there for a couple of hours, trying to catch up with what I'd missed Tuesday. As I hadn't had dinner Tuesday I was hungry, but didn't feel like cooking, so I finally microwaved one of my last three ramen bowls, and just finished eating that a few minutes ago. Now it's morning and the sun will soon rise, but I don't really fee like being up. I've got nowhere to go and nothing to do, and I hope I can go back to sleep again.

Oh, there was one interesting thing about Tuesday afternoon. It was partly cloudy much of the day, and a few times we actually got some raindrops. They were big, fat things that fell through the heat and splattered loudly on the leaves. I half expected that there would be thunder and lightning, but that never happened. At least not around the mini-metropolis. I haven't checked the news to see if there was any in the mountains. If so, there could have been fires started. We already have a couple of big fires going, but quite a way south of here, around Yosemite and in Southern California. We've been lucky in the northern counties so far this year, but then the worst fires in this area usually come during the windy days of autumn, so there's plenty of time for catastrophe.

For now I'm just going to listen to some of the music I missed so badly while the Idernet was being doltish, and then I'm going to try to get to sleep again. Here's a favorite piece of music I remembered after seeing some pictures of rain in a recent post:
