My two lamps both arrived Wednesday. The small table lamp was easy enough to set up, once I dealt with some excessive an elaborate packaging, but I found I'm not yet able to put it in the place I'd intended. The broken lamp that currently occupies the spot is being recalcitrant. The wall socket into which it is plugged is very difficult to reach, and the lamp's plug does not want to come out of it. It is yanking the face plate from the wall, and I can't maneuver my decrepit bones into a position to hold the face plate with one hand while pulling the plug with the other. My nephew will be coming to help me set up the bigger floor lamp, and I'll see if he can extract the old lamp's plug then. In the meantime I have the new lamp sitting on a chair on the other side of my bed, and it is quite pleasant.

I haven't taken the floor lamp out of its box yet, so I don't know how difficult the assembly is likely to be. I hope to find out tomorrow, though I have several other tasks that need doing first. Then I'll have to arrange for bulbs to be fetched, as the floor lamp did not have those included. Once all of this is dealt with, my life will be somewhat improved, and I might be less grumpy for a while. That would be a nice change.

It will also be necessary for my nephew to take a look at my chair, as I still haven't figured out where the big screw that came out of it the other night is supposed to go, and it's making me very gun-shy about sitting in it. I don't want it to dump me on the floor and crack my head open before I get to see how my room looks with both lamps installed in their proper places and functioning.

Also my dinner sandwich gave me indigestion, and I'm hoping it won't keep me awake. Wednesday I had a record of four sleep periods, the last one ending about ten o'clock in the evening, and I might be kind of slept out. Periodic acid reflux will aggravate that situation I'm sure. It's going to be cooler tonight (and today) than yesterday, and after midnight Thursday we could even get some showers. showers are almost a certainty Saturday. I'm going to enjoy this cool period as best I can, as by the second week of May we'll be having another heat wave, and the likelihood that we will be getting one of those horrendously hot El Nino summers this year is increasing by the day. The memory of last winter (and its water) might have to last us a very long time.
