The season has had me so unfocused that I totally forgot the June 28 was the 22nd anniversary of this journal. I just let it slip by unnoticed. The present has been very annoying lately, and I guess the past just got crowded out. The present is continuing to be annoying. One of the three shipments from Kohl's was supposed to be delivered Saturday, and FeeedEx sent a text saying it had been delivered at 3:39, but I had looked out my front door just a couple of minutes after that and saw nothing, not even a FedEx truck at the street.

At just about the time the text said it was delivered I heard the dog in the apartment next to mine bark. That dog usually barks only when someone is at his door, and that is what prompted me to look out my door, as it seemed likely someone was on the driveway. I now suspect that FedEx guy left the package at the neighbor's apartment, and the neighbor collected it and simply didn't tell me. He's kind of a big scary guy, and I wouldn't put it past him. Problem is no evidence at all, just suspicion.

Anyway, I spent a couple of hours trying to get information out of FedEx, but it turns out they don't want to deal with anything as pesky as a customer who isn't paying them to ship something, and their website kept sending me around in circles, until I felt like I was in Abbott and Costello's "Who's on first" routine. I finally found a phone number, but by then was too tired to deal with it, and I don't know if they even operate their phones on Sunday, so I might have to wait until tomorrow to deal with it, by which time I'll be sick of the whole thing and will probably just write the package off as a loss. It was the biggest and costliest of the three shipments my order was divided into, so it was probably close to eighty bucks worth of stuff, including two pairs of Levis, a shirt, and three pairs of socks. The other to packages are due next Friday, and are being delivered by UPS, with whom I've never had trouble, so maybe I'll have better luck with them. But the whole experience has put me off buying stuff online for delivery, and of having anything to do with FedEx ever.

Anyway, the goddamn heat wave is continuing, and today is supposed to be the peak, but it will still be very hot for a few more days. Also bad news, another string of triple-digit highs will arrive next week. And to think we've probably got another two months of this ahead. Dismal.
