Reset Forty-Nine, Day One Hundred
Sep. 1st, 2023 05:41 amHey, the post button on my LJ update page is back! For the last two days it was MIA— all grayed out and unusable. I put in a support request but it hasn't been answered, so I guess whatever was wrong has just resolved itself. I was completely baffled by it, since everything else on the site was working normally. I even tried logging in with different browsers, and nothing changed. I just couldn't post any new journal entries. Other people were posting, so obviously weren't having the same issue. I'll probably never know what happened, or why, but I'm glad it's over, and hope nothing of the sort ever happens again.
I've decided that I ought to buy a kalimba, aka thumb piano. It's a small, modern instrument based on the ancient African mbira, and it looks like it could be very easy to learn. Most of them have 17 keys, or tines, which are played with the thumbs, and they are not very expensive, so if it turns out I'm utterly inept I won't be out very much. Because they are small they are not very loud, which would be a plus in an apartment building. I've always regretted not getting to learn to play music when I was a kid, and if I don't do it soon I never will. Learning to pick out a few songs might even help exercise my declining memory. Now I just have to decide which one to buy and where to get it.
A surprising twist of the weather is bringing a coolish day today, with a high of 74, and even a chance of a couple of rain showers. The coolishness will last three days, and next week we'll be back into the eighties, which is better than nineties. There's actually a flash flood watch in effect for some areas below the burn scars of some of the fires we had a couple of years ago. The utility company has been turning off the power in some of the mountain areas the last few days due to fire risk. Some early rain would be welcome.
My sleep pattern, or non-pattern, has been quite bizarre the last couple of days, and I'm hoping to get something closer to normal today, but the odds aren't great. I've been waking up in the dark or at dusk, and can never tell what time of day it actually is, which is very disconcerting. Is it morning or evening? Who the hell knows? I guess it's a little foretaste of what it will be like when I can't remember what year it is, or how old I am.
Here's what a kalimba sounds like. It's a Metallica song, so rock out, fellow headbangers!
