For some reason my hands haven't been as cold lately as they have been since...well, as long as I can remember. It might be they weren't very cold when I was a little kid, but I don't remember that far back anymore, if I ever did. But when I woke from a Monday evening nap my right hand was all tingly from my chin having cut of the circulation to it I often sleep in weird positions), and as the hand woke up I was letting it flop against my cheek and I noticed that it wasn't making my cheek cold as it usually did. I checked my left hand, and it wasn't any colder than the right one.
Naturally my first thought was that the circulation to my head had gotten as bad as the circulation to my hand, and I was probably about to have a stroke, but then I touched my ears, which have always tended to be cold, and they were the same as ever, so it was just my hands that had gotten inexplicably warm. My feet are still cold, so it's not a general change. I've monitored my had temperature since, and indeed they have remained warmer all evening than they have historically been. I'm pretty sure that bad circulation is not supposed to spontaneously fix itself, so I have no idea what's going on. Have I contracted a localized fever of some sort? Has a benevolent mosquito injected me with an experimental cure? Was I kidnaped by aliens and given a hand transplant on their spaceship, in lieu of the usual probe? Who the hell knows? Not I.
Anyway, for the time being it seems I've got warm hands now. They've proven handy (no pun intended) for warming up my ears, but it's still distressing to think about. I'm so accustomed to worrying about things going wrong that I just don't know how to react to something suddenly and inexplicably going un-wrong. Am I going to un-die? What will this do to my insurance? So confusing. But at least one thing is the same. Confronted with something I don't understand I have withdrawn into a fantasy world and spent the last few hours watching music videos on YouTube (while periodically warming my ears) and intend to go back to sleep soon. Maybe when I wake up it will all have been a dream. Though I hope not, because then I'd have to write this journal entry all over again.
Rain expected today. Here is a piano and cello duo playing Saint-Saƫns in a European railroad station. How come stuff like this never happens on the onramp to the freeway?
