All the rain Tuesday forced me to wait until almost nightfall to go out to check the mailbox. A brief easing of the rain provided an opportunity to go without getting soaked, but I had to put on my regular shoes. I've been wearing slippers day in and day out for weeks, as they are not only more comfortable but also much easier to get on and off. I've also been wearing them without socks, so I had two unaccustomed tasks to perform. I managed to get the left foot into a sock without much more difficulty than I did last time I wore them, but the right foot proved a challenge. My right hip just doesn't want to move that far anymore, and I nearly did myself a couple of injuries attempting it.

But I did eventually manage to get both feet fully socked, and then slipped the left foot into a shoe, though not without some difficulty, and got it tied, rather loosely, with some strain on my right shoulder, which no longer wants me to reach that much. And again the right foot was more difficult. I managed to get the shoe on, but getting it tied was nearly impossible, and I ended up doing a half assed job, and even then did somehow hurt my actual ass, as well as my hip, my knee, my side, and my shoulder. It now occurs to me this may turn out to have been the last time I ever wear shoes. Funny how abilities just slip away unnoticed when you don't use them regularly.

Anyway, I opened my umbrella and trudged out to the mailbox and didn't get extremely wet in spite of a few gusts of wet wind. The mail itself was not too badly soaked either despite having been in the inappropriate mailbox chosen by the incompetent dolts who flipped this place five years ago. I've waited until it got entirely dry to open it, and now that it is I think I'll wait until after I sleep, as it contains important tax information (or so it claims) and I'd rather not read that before trying to sleep, since official documents tend to stress me. I didn't get much of a nap Tuesday evening, so I really want to get to sleep now without further delay.

The rain is probably over for now, but it's going to stay mostly cloudy all day today and tomorrow. After that the rain returns, and could recur for as many as six days. So, winter. But not very cold. Highs mostly in the fifties, and lows mostly in the... fifties. How monotonous, though at least less costly than a freeze would be, given how expensive fuel for the furnace is again this year.

Was that everything? If not, it will have to do. I'm exhausted and my neck hurts. I hope it doesn't keep me awake.
