No, I don't know what happened to the damned weekend. I must have gone into a fantasy world or something, though I think I cooked something at least once because I've got some leftovers I don't remember in my refrigerator. I have a vague recollection of going out to the mailbox at dusk on Saturday, a memory confirmed by a new advertisement, from a local funeral home, sitting atop my mail stack, but Sunday is just a blank. There was no journal entry so I haven't even a tenuous clue about it. All I know is that it's been blazingly hot, I've been miserable, and the last hour or so is the first time in what seems like ages that I've had the windows open and the fan on, and this brief window of opportunity will last less than two hours and so far it hasn't reduced my indoor temperature below 78 degrees. I'll be surprised if it gets down to 77.
I wonder if the fantasy world the days and I vanished into was interesting? It has left no real impression, though it did manage to obliterate its rival reality. I gave shopping a pass this week, so I am out of donuts and orange juice, and I could use a couple of tomatoes and potatoes, but nobody will be available to pick stuff up for me until Wednesday, and that's actually the day I want to go to the bank, and don't know if stopping at a store will fit into the brief trip. Had I been paying attention to reality over the weekend I probably could have gotten some stuff then. Now it will have to wait until the big shopping I hope to do either next Friday or next Monday.
No respite from the heat is in sight. It is to be 108 today, and the only high in the two week forecast that isn't triple digit is a 99. A slightly bright spot is that a few nights coming up next week will have lows in the high sixties. It's not much, but I'm desperate and I'll take what I can get. Oh, for October!
