No work took place in the apartment Wednesday, though later some futzing about was taking place with the appurtenances in the ground above the septic tank, which is just outside my front door. I was asked it there was any water on my bathroom floor, which there wasn't, but it appears there was some in at least one other apartment, so it may be that the drains are acting up, now that the incoming pipes are (mostly) fixed. No rest or the wicked? No good deed goes unpunished? A stitch in time confuses Schrodinger's cat? Hell if I know,. It's all technology to me, and I don't get it.

I made a final attempt at using the single-use debit cards I got as rebate money, and failed online, then had my niece go to Safeway to see if they could be used in the real world, but it appears that she was a bit too late. The cards expired at he end of the day, but apparently the day ended earlier where the bank that issued them was than it did here, and thus I ended up paying for everything with my regular debit card. Worse, I forgot to remind my niece to enter my old telephone number at Safeway checkout (Stupid Old Guy Syndrome strikes again) so I didn't get the coupon discounts I'd set up online. The bill was more than thirty bucks higher than I'd expected, and I also didn't get digital rewards I'd set up, so the total loss was probably over $35. But I called the store and they said it can be fixed retroactively, if my niece brings in the receipt. We're going to set that up. I'm glad Safeway is not Kohl's, who hand out unusable debit cards to avoid giving promised rebates.

There were whiffs of smoke intermittently all day Wednesday and all night, as the wildfires continue to burn. The Park Fire is closing in on 400,000 acres, and is only 18% contained. The worst smoke is farther north, of course, the wind being generally from the south. I feel like I'm waiting for another shoe to drop, since the wind must change direction eventually. Of course the strongest containment lines will be those near the mini-metropolis, as losing even part of a city of over 100,000 could be quite bad for the State's economy, not to mention what's left of its reputation. They'll do what they can to prevent that. Still, fires have been known to jump containment lines.

Dunno if drywall guy will be back today. I'm out of the loop (assuming there even is one) as usual. Also don't know when the Safeway thing will be dealt with. For somebody who hates uncertainty, I'm getting an awful lot of it. I'm also getting wormer, and not in the good way. Heading for a high of 102 today, and triple digit highs all week, and beyond. Plus warmer nights. Hurry back, October! We miss you!
