Monday night I slept for hours and Tuesday night I couldn't sleep at all. My brain went into hamster mode shortly after I got into bed for a nap, and after about three hours of that crap I gave up and got up. I've been awake ever since. For the second night in a row I ate no dinner, but just snacked on foolish things. I just finished eating one of those fruit and nut energy bars and washed it down with iced coffee, so odds are I won't be sleeping anytime soon. So it goes. And goes, and goes, and goes and....

It's moderately warm indoors this morning— 75 degrees, to be exact— and has been a bit less outside, but is rising and going up to 93 out there this afternoon. Tomorrow the high will be back down into the eighties, and Friday is still predicted to be a mere 75. It is going to be mostly cloudy Friday. Cloudy! It's like a little bit of September is coming early. August will be back later of course, but for one day we even get a 15% chance of rain. Then Saturday, even though it will get warmer and be mostly sunny, the chance of rain will go up to 24%. How that works I don't know, but it's one of those gift horses I won't look in the mouth.

Groceries might be fetched Friday, for as poor as Safeway's sale is this week it's still the best available. I was hoping they'd have a weekend extra sale, as they have several times recently, but apparently not, so I'll just put up with the Friday sale. Unless they spring something on me before then. But they probably won't. They will probably save that for the Labor Day weekend, by which time I'll be all shopped out.

I looked out the window once overnight and saw the Very Large Moon, which I gather was the aftermath of a supermoon I missed by sleeping too much. It was also a seasonal blue moon, meaning the third full moon in a season with four full moons. There is also something called a monthly blue moon, which is the second full moon in a given month. Those happen every couple of years, but the seasonal blue moons are rarer and the next one won't be until August 21, 2032, but which time I'm very likely to be dead. The next monthly blue moon will be on May 21, 2026, by which time I'm only fairly likely to be dead. I probably ought to have made an effort to see the one we just had, but I was so tired I might as well have been dead.

I'm smelling a bit of smoke in the air this morning. I don't know if it's from the Park Fire or not. Somehow I doubt it, as its active zones have moved well beyond our area, and the wind has been from a different direction. There is a smaller fire to the south, but quite some distance and it seems unlikely that its smoke would reach here. I do hope we haven't picked up a new one overnight. That could really ruin the pleasant, cool weekend I'm so looking forward to.
