51/54: The Balm That Does Not Soothe
Nov. 5th, 2024 09:28 amLet's see if I can stay focused long enough to both finish and post an entry. Monday night I slept a very long time, though I can't recall just when I went to bed. I'm sure it was well before midnight, and then I didn't getup until after dawn. I did wake up a couple of times, and had a hard time getting back to sleep the second time because for the second night in a row I had a stomach ache. Maybe I need a change of diet.
Monday got a bit warmer than predicted, topping out at 77 degrees, but today is only expected to get up to 71. Most likely there won't be much warming of the apartment from that, but even a little bit helps. I didn't need the furnace at all overnight, despite a low in the forties. I won't be that lucky tonight, though I can probably make it to midnight without mechanical assistance.
But the warm spell has brought an unwelcome companion: a red alert fire warning. Today and tomorrow will be windy, so the fire risk is very high. I particularly dislike November fires. There are bad memories of them. The alert goes through Wednesday evening, and then the wind will die down enough to reduce the risk. It won't go away though, not until we get some real rain. Next week's predicted rain will probably just be showers, so that won't do it. I'll be uneasy until the whole region gets two or three good soakings.
Gad, noon already. And night comes sooner now too. Things are not what they used to be. Or ever were, I suspect.
