The change in the weather has also brought a change in wind direction, and when I went outside Thursday afternoon I could smell smoke, probably from the fire in Placer County. The smell only lingered for an hour or so, though the sky remained brownish all afternoon. The fire, which has been burning since September 6, has now topped 66,000 acres and destroyed 70 buildings. It's the state's biggest fire this year, though it's still quite small compared to last year's monsters.

Rain is still predicted for Sunday and Monday, though chances for Tuesday rain are diminishing. Much cooler nights are on the way. Tonight has gotten quite chilly, and I've had to put on a hoodie when I go outside. There's supposed to be more hat later in the month, but it's so nice to be rid of it for at least a few days.

I'm thinking about firing up the oven either tonight or tomorrow night to bake one of my cans of biscuits. I haven't had any since spring, I've still got a couple of packages of frozen lasagna, too, which will be nice change from all the sandwiches I've been downing for the last few months. This could turn into the tastiest week I've had in a long time. Six days until the autumnal equinox. It looks like I might make it.
